The Xbox is one of the greatest gadgets ever created for game playing and adventure. However, the Xbox can also be one of the major causes of frustrations for games especially when an Xbox error occurs. The red ring of death error is an Xbox 360 problem that has plagued a lot of owners and if this happens then you will want to know how to fix your Xbox. If you have an Xbox console and you need some help on the red ring of death error then this article is for you.

The first thing you need to know is what the red ring of death means. This is an Xbox error manifested by a red light, or rather 3 red lights around the power ring. Instead of the normal green light that flashes, a red one indicates that something is wrong with your console. This comes from a hardware malfunction that results from overheating. Microsoft has created a very sleek gadget but forgot to customize its ventilation system very well. When you have this problem on your console this means that there are no proper ways for the equipment to disperse the heat inside coupled by an inefficient cooling system and you will need to fix your Xbox.

This has been a common complaint for Xbox console which is why Microsoft did an investigation to solve the problem. They found that the problem is connected with the clamps on the motherboard and also with the heatsink itself not dissipating enough heat. There seems to be a problem with the x-clamps allowing the heatsink to move and resulting in the GPU overheating. The other problem is that the original heatsink itself was not good enough at removing the heat from the GPU which causes your console to overheat. Now you know what the problem is you need to fix it. How can you do this?

If you want to get the error fixed and your console is still covered with a warranty, then you should send your console to the microsoft Xbox repair center. Having no warranty means that you will be paying a large sum of money for the Microsoft people to repair your console. Microsoft generally takes 2 months to repair your Xbox so you have to wait for a long time to get it back. Nonetheless, a quick and easy way to fix your Xbox error is to repair it yourself. You need three things here.

#1 An x-clamp repair kit. These are very cheap and consist of the clamps, mounting screws and heatsink compound. the compound on the heatsink must be cleaned off and replaced when you replace the clamps. If you do not replace it overheating may occur again.

#2 This is optional. You can obtain the same replacement heatsinks Microsoft are using to prevent overheating. These heatsinks are large and conduct all the excess heat away from the GPU and if you are replacing the clamps you can replace the heatsink at the same time and this only takes a couple of minutes.

#3 You need to know how to open your console in the first place. Doing this is easy if you know how and if you don’t you can break the casing and spend hours in frustration trying to figure it out. The easiest way to find out how to open it and dismantle it is with videos from video sharing sites.

Once you have got the console open it takes you a matter of minuTes to replace the parts and fix it yourself and you do not need to be a technician to fix your Xbox console.
